By now it is generally accepted that family and domestic violence abuse destroys women’s lives.  What is not well understood is how to make the changes; and it starts with Primary Prevention.

Men’s violence against women has been an ongoing epidemic in Australia for years and, sadly, the issue still has huge prevalence throughout the country today.

To stop this, we need to change the attitudes and social norms that excuse or condone disrespect, sexual harassment and abuse. We all need to play our part – and we need men who know that they are a part of the solution to be equipped with the tools they need to make change in themselves, their communities, and our society.

White Ribbon Australia is a part of a global social movement working to eliminate gendered violence. They strive for an Australian society where all women and children are safe. White Ribbon is the world’s largest movement engaging men and boys to end men’s violence against women and girls, promote gender equality and create new opportunities for men to build positive, healthy, and respectful relationships.

The White Ribbon Australia movement works through a primary prevention approach in communities, schools, and workplaces across the country. Through our programs and campaigns, we engage with men to become active in the social change needed to stop men’s violence against women and children.

What we do know is, startlingly:

  • 1 in 6 women have experienced physical or sexual violence by a current partner or previous partner since the age of 15 years compared to 1 in 16 men

  • 1 in 4 women have experienced emotional abuse by a current or previous partner since the age of 15 compared to 1 in 6 men

  • 1 in 5 women have experienced sexual violence since the age of 15 compared to 1 in 20 men.

But the solutions to solving this epidemic comes through the format of Primary Prevention Programming. Your money will help establish and grow our Community Action Groups which educate boys and men; in their community and in their way of the ways that they can prevent violence and build safer communities.
